I'm a Web3 developer working with Farcaster and Base. A recruiter contacted me out of the blue on Telegram after finding my HackQuest profile and researching my projects. She sent me a surprisingly detailed 6-page proposal for a 4-week engineering engagement: $125/hour, up to 80 hours, $10,000 total. The project? Cross-protocol identity infrastructure involving Farcaster, wallet verification, and ENS. Sounds great. But I got curious and started digging. 🚩 Here's what I found: 1. 3-week-old website. Her domain, lisatrotter.xyz, was registered on September 23, 2026, despite featuring content dated much earlier. 2. GitHub history. The website repository was created the same day. The entire initial codebase (4,686 lines) appeared in a single commit, with just two more commits shortly afterward. 3. Fresh Telegram identity. Her Telegram account changed its name about 17 days ago, and profile photos were added roughly 13 days ago. 4. Mystery employer. The proposal doesn't identify the company, client, or project owner funding the $10K engagement. 5. Questionable business case. Farcaster has been struggling, and much of the proposed verification functionality already exists through Farcaster and Neynar. 6. Technical inconsistency. The proposal suggests that one wallet can be actively verified by multiple FIDs, apparently contradicting Farcaster's globally unique verification rules. 7. Unusually personalized pitch. The PDF references my GitHub projects, conference appearances, and previous work in considerable detail. To be fair: She hasn't asked me to run code, connect a wallet, share credentials, or do unpaid work. She offered to arrange a call with the project lead. Maybe it's a genuine opportunity. Maybe it's a sophisticated Web3 developer recruitment scam. What would you bet on? |YES = Scam NO = Legitimate offer
