Yeah, depends on the lifestyle you want. If you keep your spending sensible, you can live pretty comfortably off that imo.

it depends not on geography or lifestyle, but on your starting conditions and the health of you and your loved ones. if you have no inherited property, land, or anything else, and all you have is dead people’s debts and problems for the living, a million isn’t money. if you’re 19, sitting in a gaming chair with a glowing mic in front of a rainbow-lit pc in your parents’ house (who, by the way, are alive and perfectly healthy) then a million just feels like a lot of cars, watches and sneakers you can buy.

Agree, health is wealth. I was thinking of an adult with no debt or major health expenses. In a cheaper area, $1M could buy a home and still leave a substantial amount invested. If you no longer need to live near work, you have more choice about where to settle. Starting conditions matter, but geography and lifestyle definitely do too.

In the peak days of Moxie, my portfolio went up to 300k, but I got greedy and said I'd hold until my 1M goal. That’s how it ended up that my portfolio is now under 10k.

$1 million isn’t enough for me now. As a kid I used to picture the house, the car, the boat... and that number felt like winning. Turns out that was just a daydream from someone who hadn’t actually lived yet.

You need to take inflation into account. $1M today could be worth, say, half as much in 20 years.
