Tesla Cybercab is Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous robotaxi, designed to operate without a steering wheel or pedals. Tesla first unveiled the two-seat Cybercab at its “We, Robot” event in California in October 2024. Tesla entered the paid robotaxi market in Austin, Texas, in June 2025, initially using Model Y vehicles rather than Cybercabs. Since then, Tesla has expanded its Robotaxi service to additional U.S. cities and started production and real world testing of the purpose-built Cybercab. Cybercab is intended to become a core vehicle in Tesla’s Robotaxi network, competing with established autonomous ride-hailing companies such as Waymo. Waymo currently has a significant head start, with a larger driverless fleet and operations across more U.S. markets.
